A note about these notations: 2.1, for example, would mean the first episode of the second season. These numbers are followed by the episode's title. The listed year is when the episode first aired; the name is the episode's writer ("s" denotes story credit; "t" denotes teleplay credit). In the case of shows with no attributable writing credit, "dir." denotes director.

004. (06 Jan) The Staircase, 1.4: Chapter 4. A prosecution trickery (2005, dir. Jean-Xavier de Lestrade) ****

007. (08 Jan) The Sopranos, 4.13: Whitecaps (2002, Mitchell Burgess, David Chase, Robin Green) ***
<The Sopranos s4's Cumulative Season Rating (CSR): ***> [Note: CSRs are not a mathematical average of a season's episode ratings. Strict accounting can't always do justice to television's far-reaching scope and aggregate wallop.]

008. (09 Jan) /Gilmore girls, 4.11: In the Clamor and the Clangor/ (2004, Sheila R. Lawrence, Janet Leahy) ***1/2

019. (01 Feb) Gilmore girls, 6.13: Friday Night's Alright for Fighting (2006, Amy Sherman-Palladino) ***1/2
[Might as well start posting excerpts from my casual Gilmore girls emails. These are quickly fired off to friends (usually during hectic working hours), packed with spoilers, and don't make much sense unless you've already seen the episodes in question.]

020. (02 Feb) /Gilmore girls, 4.14: The Incredible Shrinking Lorelais/ (2004, Amy Sherman-Palladino, Daniel Palladino) third viewing
[New site policy: To avoid overkill, I will stop rating TV episodes after second viewing. If I'm ever watching portions of a TV series more than twice, it's safe to say I consider the show a Major Work for the ages and we can leave it at that. Or, put another way: figuring Gilmore girls ends up running seven seasons, and I'll be re-watching the Palladinos' masterpiece throughout my entire life, that would mean the slight, perpetual tweaking of 153 different ratings. No thanks.]

021. (06 Feb) /Gilmore girls, 4.15: Scene in a Mall/ (2004, Daniel Palladino) ****

THIS IS THE SCENE IN THE MOVIE WHERE I SWITCH TO A NEW SYSTEM. I'm finding logging and rating individual television episodes too oppressive (plus I don't have the time anymore, plus my CSRs are all that really matter). From now on, I'm only going to note the following information in my television logs: (A) When I began watching the season in question; (B) When I completed watching the season; (C) Show title; (D) Season number; (E) Amount of episodes in season; (F) Year(s) season aired; (G) Show creator; (H) My CSR. Re: seasons I never complete (i.e. weak shows I abandon), I might simply assign a CSR based on my partial viewing. Or I might not, pretending the show never crossed my path. We'll see.

001. (17 Jun - 24 Jun) Entourage s2 [fourteen episodes] (2005, Doug Ellin) **1/2

002. (25 Jun - 25 Jun) TCM's Edge of Outside [one hour documentary] (2006, dir. Shannon Davis) [rough cut] **

003. (12 Jul - 06 Aug) Weeds s1 [ten episodes] (2005, Jenji Kohan) ***1/2
[Just the sort of high-caliber satire I'd expect from a Gilmore girls alum.]

004. (27 Aug - 27 Aug) No Direction Home: Bob Dylan [two episodes; 207 minutes] (2005, dir. Martin Scorsese) ** [projected video]

005. (14 Aug - 29 Aug) The Wire s3 [twelve episodes] (2004, David Simon) ****1/2

006. (06 Aug - 24 Sep) Curb Your Enthusiasm s5 [ten episodes] (2005, Larry David) ****

036. (27 Sep) Gilmore girls, 6.17: I'm OK, You're OK (2006, Keith Eisner) ***1/2
[Since I've come this far, I have to finish rating every Gilmore girls episode individually.]

037. (28 Sep) Gilmore girls, 6.18: The Real Paul Anka (2006, Daniel Palladino) ***

038. (29 Sep) Gilmore girls, 6.19: I Get a Sidekick Out of You (2006, Amy Sherman-Palladino) **1/2

039. (29 Sep) Gilmore girls, 6.20: Super Cool Party People (2006, David S. Rosenthal) *1/2

040. (30 Sep) Gilmore girls, 6.21: Driving Miss Gilmore (2006, Amy Sherman-Palladino, Daniel Palladino) ***1/2

041. (30 Sep) Gilmore girls, 6.22: Partings (2006, Amy Sherman-Palladino, Daniel Palladino) ***
[It happens midway through the episode, an offhand afterthought topping a trivial scene:
"Bye honey."

"Bye."
As far as I'm concerned, those are the last two lines of Gilmore girls.]
<Gilmore girls s6 CSR: ***1/2>
